Millard, 78, died Tuesday ather King Street I home. She was born in Cornish, May 3, 1905, daughter of Daniel and Lillian Bowie Chaplin. She graduated from Cornish High School in 1922 and the University of Maine at Orono in 1926.

Mrs. Millard was a teacher in several 'Maine communities for 31 years. She taught at Cornish High School for years and was principal there dur' 4g World War II. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, a past worthy matron of Corona Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the 99 Club and the National Association of Retired Teachers. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teaching society.

Her husband was the late Joseph B. Millard. Survivors are two brothers, Raymond Chaplin of South Hiram and Stuart Chaplin of South Berwick; and a sister, Leola Ellis of Cornish. A graveside service Thursday at 2 Riverside Cemetery. The Neal and York Funeral Home, Kezar Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

Beryl Garrett KENNEBUNK Beryl S. Garrett, 71, of Haley's Woods, Winter Street, died Tuesday at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a brief illness. She was born in Tilton, N.H., Nov. 18, 1911, daughter of Leon 0. and Florence Palmer Severance, and attended Tilton schools.

Mrs. Garrett was employed for many vears by the former Blue Wave Gift Shop and Kesslen Shoe and The Seaside House at Kennebunk Beach where she was a pastry cook. She is survived by three sons, Benjamin F. Garrett of Alfred, Bruce W. Garrett of Kennebunkport and Peter B.

Garrett of North Berwick; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Sharon) Bergeron of Kennebunk; two brothers, Leon 0. Severance and Henry Severance, both of Kennebunk; three sisters, Olive Nichols of North Berwick, Ava Norton of Wells and Elizabeth Morgan of Kemp, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer with the Rev.

24, 1907, son of Leon and Lydia Talbot Metayer, and attended Biddeford schools. Metayer worked in several shoe factories, including Miller Shoe Dover, N.H., for 15 years. He retired in 1972. He was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church and a member of the Elks Lodge and Ste. Jean Baptiste Bienfaisance.

Survivors are his wife, Lucille Gouin Metayer, and two daughters, Claire Metayer and Marcelle Metayer, all of Saco; and four sisters, Eglantine Roy, Yvonne Metayer Lucienne Metayer and Mrs. Lionel (Blanche) Perreault, all of Biddeford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. from Notre Dame de Lourdes Church. Interment will be in St.

Pelletier, 91, of 23 May died Tuesday evening at Saco River Health Care Center after a long illness. She was born in Biddeford, Jan.

1, 1892, daughter of Louis M. and Malvina Dargis Pelletier, and attended local schools. Miss Pelletier owned and operated a millinery store, The Cosy Trio, on Main Street for more than 40 years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.

12, 1900, daughter of John and Delia Reilly Twomey, and attended local schools. Miss Twomey was a stenographer for the Maine Department of Human Services in Portland for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Children of Mary Sodality. Surviving are a nephew, Harry Sullivan of Saco; and a niece, Mrs.

Edward M. (Rita) Reilly of Biddeford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church.

He was born in Lynn, son of Joseph and Marion Hudson Pope. Pope lived in Manchester for 35 years and came to Springvale in 1957.

Survivors are wife, Cormier Pope of Springvale; a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) Noonan of Manchester; two brothers, Albert Hammer of Swampscott, and Ralph Hammer of Springfield, sisters, Bess Landick of Lynnfield, and Marion Hager of Providence, R.I.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Clarence Libby Sr. BERWICK Clarence H. Libby 79, of Hubbard Road, died Monday at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born in Berwick, Feb, 13, 1904, son of Frank and Rosemarie Perry Libby. Libby, a life-long Berwick resident, was a self-employed mechanic for many years.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and a former member of the Berwick Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Almeda Libby of Berwick; five sons, Clarence Libby Franklin Libby and Charles Libby, all of Berwick, David Libby of South Berwick Francis Libby of Rochester, N.H.; five daughters, Gladys Coffin of Berwick, Laura Caron of Sanford, Marseilles Richardson of Farmington, N.H., Joan Turcotte of Somersworth, N.H., and Lorenzo of Haleiwa, Hawaii; a sister, Beulah Cole of Somersworth; 57 grandchildren; and 34 greatgrandchildren. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Peace Church with the Rev. Marcel L.

Dumoulin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Laing Funeral Chapel, 29 Rochester St. George Morris OGUNQUIT George 1 L. Morris, 93, an artist for many years, died Sunday at a nursing home in Anandale, after a long illness.

He was born in Portland, Sept. 21, 1890, son of George W. and Tressy L. Morris. He attended Portland School of Art for many years.

He also attended Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Academy of Design in New York City. Morris maintained a studio in Ogunquit for many years, retiring in 1980. Before World War he was a stage actor in Halifax, Nova Scotia and appeared in productions with Sidney Toler. He is survived by his wife, Marion F. Thorndike Morris of Ogunquit; a daughter, Carol F.

Fisher of Fairfax, a granddaughter; and two greatgrandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Hay and Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress Portland. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Richard St.

Laurent SOUTH BERWICK Richard J. St. Laurent, 67, of 12 Norton formerly of 683 Emery Bridge Road, died Tuesday at his home. He was born in South Berwick, Oct. 19, 1915, son of Leonidace and Euphemie Migneault St.

Laurent. He was a South Berwick resident all of his life, and was retired as a shoe cutter, He had worked at the South Berwick Shoe Co. and Janco of Rollinsford, N.H., retiring in 1982 after 10 years at Janco. He was a volunteer firefighter for the South Berwick Fire Department for many years. He was a communicant of St.

Michael's Church. Survivors are his wife, Beatrice L. Guillemette St. Laurent of South Berwick; four daughters, Mrs. William (Margaret) DeCary of Allentown, Pa4 Mrs.

Borrowing from the optics of light receptors found on deepsea crustaceans and sea worms, biologist Jerome Wolken has developed a special lens he says is 10 times more sensitive to visible light than normal camera lenses.

Wolken said Tuesday he has filed for a patent on the but that clinical tests have never been made on its use by the visually impaired. His lens could be incorporated into eye glasses and contact lenses to improve the vision of "people who are considered legally blind, but still have 10 to 20 percent of their vision," Wolken said. Special magnifying lenses for the visually handicapped are already on the market, but Wolken said his lens would be the first one that enhances sight by increasing the eye's sensitivity to light.
